Dr. McDougall’s passing was made public on Tuesday, June 25th, when numerous Facebook users shared their heartfelt condolences and memories of him. Forks Over Knives & Plant Based Living honored him, stating, “One of our favorite WFPB doctors has passed. With a heavy heart, we share the news of Dr. John McDougall’s passing. A visionary physician and author, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, mentor, and friend, Dr. McDougall died peacefully at his home on Saturday, June 22nd, at the age of 77.”

Dr. John McDougall was a pioneer in advocating for a whole food, starch-based diet to halt, reverse, and heal chronic diseases. Alongside his wife, Mary McDougall, he co-founded the McDougall Program, which has transformed the lives of thousands by promoting a diet of 90% starchy plant foods and 10% vegetables and fruits. The McDougall Program is renowned for its success in helping people eliminate unnecessary medications and overcome serious health issues.

Throughout his illustrious career, Dr. McDougall authored 13 national best-sellers, including “The Starch Solution,” one of the top vegan books on Amazon. He served as a clinical instructor for four medical schools in the United States and received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the American College of Lifestyle Medicine.
