Schafer described the breakup as one of the “cleaner” ones she had experienced, acknowledging that despite the love they had for each other, it was clear their relationship wasn’t working. “It’s one of the cleaner breakups I’ve had. We both recognized that this is not working, and we can’t do this. We got to go our own separate ways,” she said. Despite the mutual agreement, the actress admitted it was an emotional situation due to the deep affection they shared.

In the podcast, Schafer addressed earlier comments Fike made in an interview with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe, where he spoke about his struggles with co-dependency. She emphasized that contrary to public perception, their breakup was not “messy.” When Fike expressed his need for some time alone, Schafer realized both of them had personal issues that were affecting their relationship.

A significant revelation from Schafer was that this relationship was her first time dating a cisgender man and her first strictly monogamous relationship. She pointed out that while their relationship “wasn’t perfect,” infidelity was a major cause of their breakup. Schafer disclosed that she discovered Fike’s infidelity by going through his phone. “Part of why the relationship ended is because I got cheated on for the first time,” Schafer said. “It’s part of my truth, but that fundamentally changed me as a person. And this whole process of realizing that cheating has nothing to do with you.”

Schafer shared that the infidelity made her question herself and the relationship, especially being a trans woman dating a man who had never dated a trans person before. Despite the heartbreak, Schafer has been focusing on her career and self-improvement since the breakup. She mentioned that she is currently single and enjoying this phase of her life.

Fike, in his interview with Zane Lowe, admitted that his need for love often transferred onto the relationship, which eventually led to its downfall. He expressed his current disinterest in being in relationships, highlighting the personal battles both he and Schafer were dealing with.

The pair met during the filming of the second season of *Euphoria*, which premiered in January 2022. Fike debuted as a new character named Elliot, while Schafer had been with the show since its first season as Jules Vaughn. They confirmed their romance by walking the red carpet together at the 2022 Vanity Fair Oscars afterparty. However, by the summer of 2022, they had broken up.

Reflecting on her past relationships, Schafer stated that while she cannot predict if she will date another musician in the future, her priority now is figuring out her own life. She expressed her hesitation about discussing the breakup publicly, emphasizing her desire to keep the details private. “It makes me so nervous to talk about this stuff because I have no interest in letting the public into what happened and everything. I absolutely have no fucking desire because what happened with that was between me and him, and I wanna keep it and protect that,” Schafer shared. “But at the same time, I’m like, I’m here to talk about my truth.”

Schafer’s candid revelations provide insight into the complexities of their relationship and the personal growth she has experienced since their breakup.
