How Did Ruth Hessey Died?

On Friday, 31st March 2023, Australian filmmaker cum journalist Ruth Hessey was walking near her Bronte home when a vehicle struck her. She was walking as a pedestrian in Bronte but suddenly a car crashed into her. The extent of the collision was so high, Ruth Hessey sustained life-threatening injuries.

However, the filmmaker was rushed to St Vincent Hospital where she was receiving treatment and under hospice care the whole night. But on Saturday morning, 1st April 2023 Ruth Hessey was pronounced dead.

Her cause of death is apparently linked to her injuries incurred in the accident.

The chairman of Eastside Radio 89.7 FM, Christopher Zinn said that Ruth had been an infectious spirit at Eastside for the past decade. While working at Eastside FM, Ruth worked as a presenter of Monday Drive, a videographer for our campaigns, and a producer of our physical and neurodiversity show, Breaking Waves.

Being a filmmaker, she created a documentary titled “Waste Not” for TEC. She was internationally acclaimed for her short film Waste Not which was screened in 30 countries across the world.
Most recently, she worked as a presenter of Breaking Waves for Eastside Radion 89.7 FM. It is a weekly show specially designed for disabled people. In fact, Breaking Waves was also nominated for Best New Show at the Community Broadcasting Australia Awards in 2021 and 2022.
