Luton Town FC Full Back Dick Edwards Dies At Age 79

Reportedly, this devastating news was addressed by Luton Town FC. The club posted “the news has reached Kenilworth Road of the sad passing of former Town full-back Dick Edwards at the age of 79. Our condolences go out to all of Dick’s family and friends.” However, the club did not specify the cause of death of the former defender. But his age was mentioned. Dick Edwards was 79. Thus it can be concluded that he might have died naturally. Due to his old age issues, his health might be deteriorating.

He was born in Kingsbury. However, he played for Addmult in the South Midland League. It was the time when Dick Edwards impressed the Hatters and they signed him in October 1963 on amateur forms. Later his family migrated to North-East where he worked in Newton Aycliffe at 3M until retirement.

Former Defender Dick Edwards Passed Away

The Luton Town FC stated, “Dick was playing for Addmult (Hemel Hempstead) in the South Midland League when the Hatters spotted him and signed him on amateur forms in October 1963.”

“The tough tackling full-back then signed part-time professional forms in June 1964 before making his full debut at right-back on the final day of the 1964/65 season just as the club was relegated to Division Four for the first time in its history.”


“During the following season Dick signed a full-time contract and was able to make 16 appearances in four different positions, plus score a goal in the 2-2 draw at Colchester, as the Town tried for promotion at the first attempt.”

“Released at the end of that campaign, along with many others, Dick signed on for Kettering Town where he turned out for three seasons before playing local amateur football.”
